Abstract: In the United States, it has become increasingly hard to attain economic security (The White House, 2021) and the middle class is shrinking while the higher and lower income tiers are simultaneously growing (Pew Research Center 2022). The ability to make complex financial decisions is the factor most commonly viewed as the way to maintain strong financial well-being. Many researchers fear that relying on hard work to be financially successful can distract individuals from managing their finances properly and reaching their highest possible levels of financial well-being. This study evaluates whether or not the ability to make complex financial decisions plays a crucial role in financial well-being as well as the effect a strong belief in hard work really has on financial well-being.
