Abstract: The comorbidity between cigarette usage and pathological gambling has been well established. Roughly 2-4 million Americans meet the criteria for pathological gambling in their lifetime, and among those roughly 60% use nicotine. However, while the concurrent relationship between these two variables has been well explored in the literature, there is little analysis as to identifying if nicotine usage as a minor is a reliable indicator of later pathological gambling. Therefore, the goal of the present analysis is to explore the viability of adolescent nicotine usage as an indicator of pathological gambling. After analysis of the data, nicotine usage as a minor is significantly related to pathological gambling in adulthood, however, it is not a viable indicator because the proportion of minor addicts remains very low.
