Abstract: Criminologists and social scientists alike have investigated public sentiment surrounding crime and punishment for quite some time. In recent years, public support of more punitive measures in response to crime has risen. This present study examines the association between one’s social class and their respective opinion of the courts’ treatment of criminals. The research found that there is a significant association between the two aforementioned variable. When controlling for race, the relationship between the variables remained unchanged.
