Abstract: In light of the growing normalization of cannabis use amongst young adults, this research project investigates the intricate relationship between stress levels and cannabis dependency, aiming to uncover the nuanced interplay between these factors. Through a comprehensive analysis of data collected from NESARC’s sample, the study aims to elucidate whether heightened stress predisposes individuals to increased cannabis dependence. While it was hypothesized, individuals experiencing elevated stress would be more prone to developing dependency on cannabis as a coping mechanism, there wasn’t a statistically significant relationship between stress levels and cannabis dependency, even when holding for gender.
