Abstract: As hallucinogen usage continues to increase amongst young adults, the prevalence of social phobia has also increased. This research project examines the complex relationship between hallucinogen use and social phobia. Using the data set collected from NESARC’s Wave 1 sample, this study seeks to determine whether the use of hallucinogenic drugs influences an individual to be diagnosed with social phobia. Complying with the hypothesis that individuals who use hallucinogens is related to the individual’s social phobia diagnosis, there was a statistically significant relationship between hallucinogen use and social phobia diagnosis, even when factoring sex.
