Abstract: Using the American National Election Survey (ANES), this study aims to investigate whether there is a correlation between how the respondent feels about the modern political landscape and how often they participate in election cycles. With this goal in mind, this study compares positive and negative emotions with election engagement in order to better understand the contradicting trend of stagnant political participation and heightened political emotions. The results of this study suggest that negative emotions increase the likelihood of political participation, while positive emotions do not.
